1. Overview

RingCue (“the app”) is an Android app published by Stronghealth. It schedules a simulated incoming call so that a ringing phone gives you a reason to step away from a conversation, or a way to play a harmless joke on a friend. There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours. Apart from loading ads, the app sends nothing off your device.

2. The call is a simulation

No real call is ever placed or received. Nothing is dialled, no number is contacted, no carrier or telephony network is involved and no audio is transmitted anywhere. The ringtone, the caller name and the call screen are drawn by the app on your own phone. The app never reads your contacts, your call log or your phone number, and it has no permission to do so.

3. Everything stays on your phone

The callers you create — name, the number text you type in, ringtone, vibration, call screen style and the words spoken during the call — are saved only in the app’s local storage on this device. We operate no server that could receive them.

Photos. If you give a caller a face, the app opens the Android system photo picker. You choose one image; the app copies that single image into its own private folder on the device so it survives storage cleanups. The app has no permission to browse your gallery, and the photo is never uploaded.

Speech. When a call is answered, the caller’s lines can be read aloud by Android’s own text-to-speech engine on the device. If your device has no engine available, the call simply stays silent. The app does not record audio and holds no microphone permission.

The app works fully in airplane mode apart from ads. Uninstalling the app removes this local storage, including any caller photos. Android backup is left enabled for this App, so a copy of that data may also exist in your Google account. Uninstalling does not delete that copy, and installing the App again can restore it. You can review or delete it in the backup settings of your Google account.

4. Information we collect

The app does not collect, store or transmit personal information. We do not operate a server or database holding user data.

5. Third-party services and ads

The app uses one third-party service.

• Google AdMob — used to show ads. A banner appears on the home screen only. A full screen ad can appear only after a call has ended, on the summary screen, or after you save a caller in the editor — never while a call is scheduled, never while the phone is ringing and never during a call. The first calls you make carry no full screen ad, there is a minimum gap between them and a daily limit. There are no rewarded ads: nothing in the app is placed behind an ad.
  For advertising the app declares the advertising ID permission (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID). Google’s Mobile Ads SDK may collect the advertising identifier, IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), app interaction and diagnostic data in order to serve and measure ads. See Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses advertising data. You can reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings > Privacy > Ads on Android.
  If an ad fails to load, the app simply carries on.

No analytics, crash reporting or push services are used.

6. Permissions

The app asks for as little as it can, and each entry has one job.

• Notifications — so the scheduled call can reach you. Without it the app cannot put the call screen in front of you.
• Full screen intent — lets the call screen appear over the lock screen the way an incoming call does. If Android withholds it, the app falls back to a ringing call notification you can answer.
• Foreground service (special use) — the app keeps a countdown running so the call arrives at the minute you asked for, even with the screen off. A notification shows while a call is scheduled. Nothing is collected by this service.
• Vibration and wake lock — to buzz and to light the screen when the call arrives.
• Internet, network state and advertising ID — used only to load ads.

The app requests no access to contacts, the call log, the microphone, the camera, your location, your files or your gallery.

7. Responsible use

RingCue is meant for leaving awkward situations and for jokes between people who will laugh about it. It is not a substitute for contacting emergency services, and it must not be used to impersonate the police, an emergency line, a public official or any other person in order to deceive someone to their harm. The app blocks emergency and law-enforcement names when you create a caller.

8. Children’s privacy

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
