1. Overview

Film Light Meter ("the App") is a free Android app developed by Pando ("we", "us"). It helps film photographers measure a scene's light and calculate exposure settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO). The App has no user accounts or cloud sync. Metering and exposure calculations run on your device; Google services process advertising and aggregate usage data. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information.

2. Information We Access and How It Is Used

We do not operate a server that stores your photos, meter readings, or settings. Specifically:

• Camera — used only for "reflected" metering, and only when you tap to take a reading. The App captures a single photo to read its exposure data (shutter speed, aperture, ISO) from the image's EXIF metadata, then computes an exposure value. These photos are kept in the App's own temporary cache only — they are never uploaded to us and are not saved to your device gallery. If you deny camera access, you can still use incident metering and the exposure calculator.
• Ambient light sensor — used for "incident" metering to read the illuminance (lux) around your device. This reading is processed on your device to estimate an exposure value and is not transmitted to us.
• Calibration & settings — your calibration offset and preferences are stored locally on your device only.

The App does not request location, microphone, contacts, or storage/photo-library permissions.

3. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Google advertising SDK — for displaying advertisements. The App shows a banner, an app-open ad on launch, and an occasional full-screen ad at a natural transition (never while you are actively metering a scene). Google’s SDK may process the Advertising ID, IP address (which can imply an approximate location), app interaction and diagnostic data to provide, measure and protect advertising. Advertising requests use non-personalized ads; consent choices can further limit processing. For more information, see the Google Privacy Policy.
• Google Firebase Analytics — for aggregate app usage and reliability measurement. It may process app interactions, device information, identifiers, and diagnostics. We do not send your photos, meter readings, calibration, or settings as custom analytics data. See the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation.

Where required, advertising privacy choices appear before advertising requests. You can reopen available privacy choices in Settings.

Optional feedback opens a Tally form in your selected language. It includes your message, feedback category and email only if you provide one. Basic technical context may include app identifier, app name, version, build, platform, device model, operating system, interface language and feedback entry point. Photos, exposure readings, EXIF, calibration, settings, location and unique device identifiers are not attached. See Tally’s Privacy Policy. Sending feedback is optional and does not affect metering or calculation.

4. Data Storage

The App does not create user accounts and does not sync any data to the cloud. Your calibration and settings stay on your device. Uninstalling the App removes this local data and any cached photos. Google may retain service data according to its policies. Android backup is left enabled for this App, so a copy of calibration and settings may also exist in your Google account. Uninstalling does not delete that copy, and installing the App again can restore it. You can review or delete it in the backup settings of your Google account.

Feedback is generally retained for up to 24 months unless needed to resolve an ongoing request or meet a legal obligation. You can request deletion using the contact form below; we aim to respond within 30 days. Advertising and analytics retention follows Google’s policies.

5. Children's Privacy

The App is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Trademarks

Film stock names referenced in the App are trademarks of their respective owners and are used for reference only, to help you select reciprocity characteristics. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by those owners.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.

8. Contact Us

For privacy questions or feedback deletion requests, use the optional contact form. It remains available in your browser after uninstalling the app. Include only what is needed to identify your request; an email address is optional.
