1. Overview

Golden Hour: Sun Moon Planner (“the app”) is a free Android app published by Stronghealth. It calculates golden hour, blue hour, sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset and the direction of the sun and moon for a place you choose. There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours. Apart from loading ads, the app sends nothing off your device.

2. Everything is calculated on your phone

All astronomical calculations run entirely on your device. The app carries its own astronomy engine and its own offline city database, so it does not send your location — or the place you searched for — anywhere to work out those times. Your saved places, your active place and your reminder settings are stored only in the app’s local storage on this device. We do not operate a server that could receive them, and we cannot see them.

Deleting the app removes that storage along with your saved places.

3. Location

Location is optional. You can use every feature of the app by searching for a city instead — the app never forces you to turn on GPS.

If you tap Use my current location, the app asks for approximate location permission (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) so it can work out which place you are in, and so the compass can rotate with your phone. That coordinate is used on the device and is not transmitted to us or to any third party. In particular, your GPS coordinates are never passed to the advertising SDK. The app does not request background location access.

4. Third-party services and ads

The app uses one third-party service.

• Google AdMob — used to show ads. Banners appear on the Today and 30 Days screens only. An interstitial may appear at most once per session after a recalculation. No ads are shown on the Compass, Places or More screens.
  For advertising the app declares the advertising ID permission (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID). Google’s Mobile Ads SDK may collect the advertising identifier, IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), app interaction and diagnostic data in order to serve and measure ads. The app always requests non-personalised ads. See Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses advertising data. You can reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings > Privacy > Ads on Android.

No analytics, crash reporting or push services are used.

5. Permissions

The app requests two permissions that require your consent:

• Approximate location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) — optional, foreground only, as described in section 3.
• Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — only asked for when you switch a golden hour reminder on. Reminders are off by default, are scheduled on this device, and never pass through a server.

The app does not request access to photos, files, storage, the camera, the microphone, contacts, or precise location. The remaining manifest entries are normal permissions granted without a prompt (internet and network state for ads, the advertising ID, vibration, and wake/boot entries used to restore scheduled reminders).

6. Data sources

City data comes from GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0 (modified: a subset, reformatted for offline use). Astronomical calculations use Astronomy Engine (MIT License, © Don Cross). Timezone boundary fallback data comes from tz-lookup (CC0, public domain).

Times are calculated, not measured. They are intended for planning photography and should not be relied on for navigation or safety.

7. Children’s privacy

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

This policy may change. Any change will be posted on this page with a new date.
