1. Overview

Golden Hour: Sun Moon Planner (“the app”) is a free Android app published by Stronghealth. It calculates golden hour, blue hour, sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset and the direction of the sun and moon for a place you choose. There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours for place or reminder records. Advertising and usage analytics services process limited device and app data. Optional feedback is submitted through Tally.

2. Everything is calculated on your phone

All astronomical calculations run entirely on your device. The app carries its own astronomy engine and its own offline city database, so it does not send your location — or the place you searched for — anywhere to work out those times. Your saved places, your active place and your reminder settings are stored only in the app’s local storage on this device. We do not operate a server that could receive them, and we cannot see them.

Deleting the app removes that storage along with your saved places.

3. Location

Location is optional. Core sun and moon planning works from a city you choose without location permission. A live rotating compass requires supported device sensors and permitted location access.

If you tap the current-location option, the app asks for approximate location permission (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) so it can work out which place you are in, and so the compass can rotate with your phone. That coordinate is used on the device and is not transmitted to us or to any third party. In particular, your GPS coordinates are never passed to the advertising SDK. The app does not request background location access.

4. Third-party services and ads

The app uses the following services:

• Google Mobile Ads SDK — displays banner and fullscreen advertising. The SDK may collect device or advertising identifiers, IP address (which may indicate approximate location), app interactions and diagnostics to serve and measure ads. App-selected GPS coordinates are not supplied to ad requests. Advertising follows the available consent choices, and requests non-personalised ads. • Firebase Analytics — measures app usage and performance, such as screen views and sessions, using app activity and device identifiers. We do not attach saved place names, coordinates or reminder contents to analytics events. See Firebase privacy information.
• Tally — receives feedback only when you submit the external form. The selected-language form receives the app name, version, build, Android platform, device model, operating system, language and entry point. It does not attach your saved places, coordinates or reminders. Your message and optional contact details are processed to respond to your request. See Tally's Privacy Policy.

Local reminders are scheduled on the device and do not use a remote push service. Advertising and feedback need an internet connection; core planning and city search work offline.

5. Permissions

The app requests two permissions that require your consent:

• Approximate location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) — optional, foreground only, as described in section 3.
• Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — only asked for when you switch a golden hour reminder on. Reminders are off by default, are scheduled on this device, and never pass through a server.

The app does not request access to photos, files, storage, the camera, the microphone, contacts, or precise location. The remaining manifest entries are normal permissions granted without a prompt (internet and network state for ads, the advertising ID, vibration, and wake/boot entries used to restore scheduled reminders).

6. Data sources

City data comes from GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0 (modified: a subset, reformatted for offline use). Astronomical calculations use Astronomy Engine (MIT License, © Don Cross). Timezone boundary fallback data comes from tz-lookup (CC0, public domain).

Times are calculated, not measured. They are intended for planning photography and should not be relied on for navigation or safety.

7. Children’s privacy

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to this policy

This policy may change. Any change will be posted on this page with a new date.

9. Contact and deletion requests

For privacy questions or requests to delete feedback you submitted, use the feedback form. Provide enough information to identify your submission. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes local places and reminder settings. Device advertising controls are available in Android Settings.
