1. Overview

Word Wheel: Crossword Connect (“the game”) is a free Android word game published by Stronghealth. There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours. Apart from loading ads, the game sends nothing off your device.

2. Everything runs on your phone

The dictionary and the 2,000 built-in levels ship inside the app. Boards past the pack, and the Daily Puzzle, are generated on your device from a seed, so nothing is downloaded while you play and the game works fully in airplane mode.

Your progress — the level you have reached, the words and bonus words you have found, hints used, your daily streak and your settings — is stored only in the game’s local storage on this device. We do not operate a server that could receive it. Settings has a Reset progress button that clears it, and deleting the game removes it too.

3. Information we collect

The game does not collect, store or transmit personal information. We do not operate a server or database holding user data.

4. Third-party services and ads

The game uses one third-party service.

• Google AdMob — used to show ads. There are four placements: a banner at the bottom of the menu screens and the level summary, one full-screen ad when the app is opened cold, a full-screen ad that can appear after a level is finished, and an optional video you can choose to watch for three more hints. No ad is ever shown on the board while you are solving a puzzle, and no level, hint or feature is locked behind watching one — the rewarded video only tops up hints, which are a convenience.
  For advertising the game declares the advertising ID permission (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID). Google’s Mobile Ads SDK may collect the advertising identifier, IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), app interaction and diagnostic data in order to serve and measure ads. See Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses advertising data. You can reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings > Privacy > Ads on Android.
  If an ad fails to load, the game simply carries on.

No analytics, crash reporting or push services are used.

5. Permissions

The game requests no permissions that need your consent. It does not ask for photos, files, storage, the camera, the microphone, location, contacts or notifications. The remaining manifest entries are normal permissions granted without a prompt (internet and network state for ads, the advertising ID, wake lock for video ad playback, and vibration for the haptics you can switch off in Settings).

6. The word lists

Words are accepted against ENABLE (public domain). Crossword answers and wheel letters are chosen from the 12dicts 2of12inf and 3esl lists by Alan Beale (public domain; 2of12inf is derived from Kevin Atkinson’s AGID), filtered at build time against the CC0 “List of Dirty, Naughty, Obscene and Otherwise Bad Words” so that answers stay family-friendly. If a word you are sure about is turned down, the About screen has a Report a word button — it opens your email app so you can tell us, and we will check it against the list.

7. Children’s privacy

The game is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
